Transportation in the protected area
Moving in the protected area requires means of private transportation, whether this would be a car, motorbike or bicycle. Yet, as long as one gets to the wetland we recommend to park cars or motorbikes and walk on the suggested routes, so one can enjoy the contact with nature, and have a close – up of the birds, animals and plants.
Lodging
There is no lodging provided in the protected area. Visitors can stay in hotels of the nearby cities (Thessaloniki, Sindos, Veria, Katerini) or in by–the-sea hotels, rent rooms and camping of the Prefecture of Pieria (Methoni, Makrigialos, Korinos, Paralia Katerinis).
Local cuisine
The sea and the rivers provide the “raw materials” for the local cuisine which has its own special dishes such as soles with green onions, cuttlefish casserole, mussels with rice and many more sea delicacies. Don’t take our word for it, eat in the tavernas of Kalohori, Halastra, Kimina, and, further down, in Methoni, to taste and try them yourself.
