When you set out for a walk in any natural area, you should always remember that you have a responsibility to protect the countryside, for the future as well as for the present. This means that you must be careful not to do anything that will harm animals, plants or the landscape, and also not to disturb other people. In order to get the most out of your visit to the Axios – Loudias – Aliakmonas Delta Protected Area, we ask you to follow these few simple rules:
* Learn about the protection scheme, how it works and why it was set up, from the Management Authority’s website and/or printed material.
* Find out about access to the protected area, about the various routes and trails and the particularities of the different sites, in order to ensure a safe and pleasant excursion.
* Be sure to wear appropriate clothing and good walking shoes, and take whatever you need (e.g. water) with you.
* When leaving form the protected area the only thing you should take with you is your rubbish. Don’t remove plants or stones or anything else from any site: leave them there for others to enjoy, and for yourself the next time you come back.
* Don’t disturb the birds or other animals more than can be helped. Enjoy the tranquillity of the place, and remember: the quieter you are, the more you are likely to see.
* Leave your car and walk whenever possible.
* Don’t light fires, and don’t throw away lighted cigarettes or anything inflammable.
* If you have a pet with you, make sure it doesn’t harm or disturb other people or any wild or domestic animals.
* Respect other people’s peace and privacy. Slow down on rural roads and make way for pedestrians, cyclists and domestic animals, giving them plenty of room.
* If you see any signs of illegal hunting or a fire or any other harmful or illegal activity, please report it to the Management Authority or the police.
